THE SLOWDOWN IN CHINESE DEMAND MAKES CAMEROONIAN WOOD EXPORTS FROM THE PORT OF DOUALA TO EUROPE MORE FLUID The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) notes with satisfaction the “fewer delays” recorded in recent weeks at the port of Douala, in Cameroon’s economic capital, in the export of Cameroonian timber to Europe.
The note on the international timber market, in which this observation is made, reveals that the upturn observed in timber shipments at the port of Douala may “be partly due to the recent slowdown in Chinese demand”, which has helped to free up shipments to Europe.
As a reminder, according to various NGOs in charge of environmental protection, China has become a privileged destination for logging companies operating in Cameroon since the entry into force, in Europe, of the Flegt agreements, reputed to be more rigorous on the traceability of marketed timber.
